Laughing Goat Gardens' Story

Greetings and salutations, dear reader! Allow me to introduce myself—I’m Jarvisson King, the founder, operator, and unapologetic soil enthusiast behind Laughing Goat Gardens. What began as a modest hobby has blossomed into a labor of love, rooted in sustainability and sprinkled with a touch of whimsy.

It all started when I returned home, only to discover that fresh produce was as rare as rain in the desert. The nearest grocery store was an hour’s drive away in every conceivable direction. Determined to take matters into my own hands (quite literally), I decided to grow my own food. Little did I know that this simple act would reconnect me to the rhythms of nature and awaken a passion for regenerative agriculture.

In the garden, I found not just vegetables but vocabulary—terms like “soil health” and “cover crops” began to roll off my tongue. Watching seeds sprout into life gave me a profound respect for the ecosystem beneath our feet. Inspired by agricultural visionaries Gabe Brown and Ray Archuleta, I’ve embraced practices that honor the land while producing nutritious, delicious food.

The Laughing Goat Gardens Evolution

In the early years, I planted what I loved to eat—simple as that. By my third season, the garden was producing more than I could possibly consume. Enter the neighbors, community members, and a burgeoning dream of turning this abundance into a sustainable business.

I’ve always been surrounded by livestock—cattle, horses, sheep, and goats—but we never raised them as a business. That changed when I realized our cattle could be more than pasture ornaments; they could be ambassadors of high-quality, grass-fed, pasture-finished beef. Our herds enjoy a life of grazing on native pastures with no irrigation and minimal interference, staying true to the essence of regenerative farming.

We also offer pasture-raised lamb and goat, which many local families prefer purchasing live for traditional celebrations. Our egg-laying chickens are free-range enthusiasts, happily preparing our garden soil while basking in sunshine. In 2020, we ventured into meat birds, and someday soon, we’ll welcome pigs to the fold—dreams are always sprouting here at Laughing Goat Gardens!

Stewardship Above All

At Laughing Goat Gardens, stewardship is our guiding principle. Every blade of grass, every cover crop, every pasture-raised animal reflects our commitment to the land. Healthy soil is the heart of everything we do, and regenerative agriculture is our compass, ensuring that future generations will inherit an ecosystem that thrives.

Wool Pellets: A Tale of Transformation

Ah, wool pellets—the quirky addition to our story. In 2022, our sheep and goats discovered a burr patch, turning their wool into a tangled mess. When we sheared them in 2023, the fleece seemed destined for the compost pile. But as fate would have it, a friend introduced us to the idea of wool pellets.

With the help of a wool pellet machine, we transformed unusable fleece into something extraordinary: a sustainable garden product that enriches soil and conserves water. By October 2023, we were at our first market, sharing this innovative solution with curious gardeners.

Laughing Goat Gardens isn’t just a farm; it’s a living testament to what happens when passion, nature, and a little ingenuity come together. We hope our story inspires you to celebrate the land, savor the seasons, and maybe even plant a seed or two of your own.
